CAAP Awards

The CAAP Air Quality Awards Program is an annual program that permits the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles the opportunity to acknowledge achievements of port tenants and operators who demonstrate a strong commitment to improving air quality at facilities within the ports. The CAAP Air Quality Awards Program is conducted jointly by the two ports. Nominations are solicited for port customers operating at either port who demonstrated, during the previous calendar year, a strong commitment to reducing air pollutant emissions from port-related sources beyond CAAP compliance levels.
ELIGIBILITYPort of Long Beach and Port of Los Angeles tenants, as well as other operators that serve the ports (e.g. shipping lines, trucking companies, rail operators) which have demonstrated during calendar year 2010, a strong committment to reducing air pollutant emissions from port-related sources beyond CAAP-compliance levels are eligible for the CAAP Air Quality Awards Program. Only port tenants and other operators that serve the ports are eligible for this program; technology vendors are not eligible. AWARD CRITERIA All awards will be evaluated for efforts conducted during calendar year 2010 to improve air quality. The general selection criteria listed below are intended to provide guidance as to the types of information for each category that will be considered when selecting awardees. A wide range of projects and programs are expected to be nominated. Nominations will be judged on a point system. The award selection criteria and the number of points possible are summarized for each category below. For more information about the categories, please download the Nomination Application. - Innovative technology can be applied to other similar port sources, or across port source categories (20 points)
Innovative Operations that Improve Air Quality - Innovation and uniqueness of operations (i.e. operational efficiency improvements, idle reduction, etc.) to reduce air pollution (40 points)
- Direct/indirect air pollutant emissions reductions, with focus on diesel particulate matter, oxides of nitrogen, and oxides of sulfur (25 points)
- Ability to address an existing air pollution problem or existing need (10 points)
- Sustainability of positive outcomes (i.e. continued emissions reductions) (15 points)
- Cost-effectiveness of the project (10 points)
Significant Early Action to Reduce Air Pollutant Emissions - Direct/indirect air pollutant emissions reductions with focus on diesel particulate matter, oxides of nitrogen, and oxides of sulfur (50 points)
- Level of significance of air quality problem addressed by significant early action (15 points)
